Traditional Chinese Medicine uses medical acupuncture to not only address symptoms of your health concerns, but also the root of the problem. For thousands of years traditional acupuncture has been used to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness by balancing internal organs, body fluids, muscles, and external factors to promote optimal health.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine is an ancient medicine dating back to 6000 BCE. Acupuncture however is very different today than it was then. There are two ways of explaining how acupuncture works: the traditional acupuncture way and the medical acupuncture way.
Traditional Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the insertion of hair thin needles into certain points to create a sensation. This sensation is not painful but instead is described as heavy, achy, electric, tingly, and warm. This sensation is called the gathering of Qi. When Qi flows properly, all things are in harmony and function correctly; when Qi is blocked, problems arise. Qi flows through the organs maintaining health and balance. It provides the energy needed for our bodies to function by supporting body temperature, maintaining structure and strength of our organs, and keeping our metabolism constant. To do all these things properly, Qi must flow through our bodies. When an acupuncture needle is inserted, it is manipulated to bring about Qi’s natural flow.
Medical Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an evidence-based treatment shown to be effective in numerous studies. Current research in Western medicine shows that acupuncture reacts with the brain to release chemicals that reduce pain, regulate hormones, and influence many of the body’s systems. Thus has an impact on inflammatory response, hormone output, metabolism, circulation, pain/opioid receptors and the nervous system. Therefore, acupuncture is an effective treatment for many conditions.
